Overview
This two day First Aid at Work (FAW) Requalification course is designed for first aiders whose original three day FAW certificate is approaching expiry. It refreshes essential first aid skills and knowledge while ensuring continued compliance with the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. On successful completion, delegates renew their Level 3 FAW qualification and can continue to act as a trained first aider in both low and high risk workplace environments.

Course syllabus
Module 1: Emergency Response
- Managing unresponsive casualties
Recognise and safely manage unresponsive casualties, including appropriate initial checks and actions.
- Performing CPR and safe AED use
Refresh practical CPR skills and learn how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) safely and confidently.
- Recovery position
Revise when and how to place a casualty in the recovery position to protect their airway while awaiting further help.
Module 2: Serious Medical Conditions
- Heart attack and stroke
Identify signs and symptoms of heart attacks and strokes and provide appropriate first aid while awaiting emergency services.
- Epilepsy, asthma and diabetes
Understand common triggers, recognition and first aid management for epilepsy, asthma and diabetic emergencies.
- Anaphylaxis and shock
Recognise anaphylactic reactions and different types of shock, and provide prompt first aid support.
Module 3: Injuries & Trauma Management
- Head, spinal and chest injuries
Refresh knowledge of how to recognise and respond safely to suspected head, spinal and chest injuries.
- Fractures, sprains and dislocations
Review how to support, immobilise and manage fractures, sprains and dislocations until further medical help arrives.
- Wounds, bleeding and burns
Cover practical treatment of wounds, external bleeding and different types of burns, including when to seek urgent medical help.
- Eye injuries and poisoning
Understand how to respond to common eye injuries and suspected poisoning incidents in the workplace.
Obtaining your certificate
On successful completion of the course, delegates renew their Level 3 First Aid at Work qualification, valid for 3 years. Certification is FAIB accredited and accepted nationwide as evidence of a regulated workplace first aid qualification.
Assessment
Assessment is through practical tasks plus two multiple-choice tests, covering both the practical skills and theoretical knowledge required to renew the Level 3 First Aid at Work qualification.
Who is it for
Existing workplace first aiders whose 3 Day Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate is approaching expiry, particularly those working in medium to high risk environments such as construction, manufacturing, engineering and larger organisations, as well as staff in lower risk workplaces who previously completed the full FAW course.
